What are Nannies?


A Nanny will care for your child (ren) in your private home. S/he may hold a formal qualification; most recognised are NVQ’s, BTEC, and NNEB. Unqualified Nannies who have extensive experience are just as good and professional as qualified Nannies. A professional Nanny will have first aid training and have an enhanced CRB check.


Ofsted Registered Nannies

Are registerted with Ofsted (the official body for inspecting childcare) and have a Unique Reference Number (URN) which parents need to claim childcare approval vouchers from the government. To be registered the Nanny will need: either a childcare qualification or attend a training course approved by Ofsted (Introduction to Childcare Practice / home based). Hold a 12 hour paediatric First Aid certificate and a Nanny Insurance certificate. The applicant will need a CRB check; this is enclosed in the application pack. If lived out of the UK for less than 5 years, possibly may need a letter of good conduct from the Nanny’s home country.

Job role, duties and responsibilities

This gives an idea of what to expect, each family has different needs and Nannies duties can vary. Nannies that care for children who are in full time education maybe happy and willing to carry out PA or light housekeeping duties. Nannies have the skills and experience working on a sole charge basis and prefer to. Some are happy to work with the parents in a shared care role. Some are flexible and happy to travel with families and proxy parenting. Daily they would plan and organise children’s school, social, activities diaries. Be skilled and have the ability to organise stimulating indoor learning age appropriate activities, outdoor activities such as parks, day trips and swimming. Cook healthy meals, assisting with any health care appointments. Carry out nursery duties which involve laundry, keeping rooms and toys tidy. Being responsible for overall well being for your child.

Days and hours of work.

Full time placements

Live-in: Normally work Monday to Friday from 7 am to 7pm with 1 – 2 evenings babysitting.

Live-out: Normally work Monday to Friday 10 hours a day. Can provide baby sitting which is paid additionally.

Part time placements:

Normally are live-out positions, can be live-in. No max or min days/hours of work.

Salary:

This varies depending on candidate’s qualification, experience and location of family. As an employer you are responsible to pay Nanny Tax, N.I and employers N.I. The current market rates are:

Live-in: £350 - £400 net per week

Live-out: £450 - £550 per week
